Perhaps we could begin by writing to one another?
Clearly,
we know very little about each other. I would enjoy learning a few
things about each of the educators involved with this project. Also, as a
writing teacher, I am a firm believer in being a good model for my
students--and that includes writing. So, can we also write to one
another? Both as a group but I would also welcome one-on-one exchanges
with participants.
I will begin with something for the group:
First,
thank you to everyone participating in the friendly letter exchange. I
am excited about working with all of you and your students this year.
I meet my students for the upcoming school year in one week. I am sure they will welcome this pen pal arrangement.
I will share a few things about me:
- I have been teaching for 21 years.
- My school is in Pennsylvania, United States.
- I consider myself a writer and a teacher as I have published a few articles on education in America--I am also an active blogger.
- My wife and I keep a vegetable garden.
- I do some education writing/work with the American Immigration Council in Washington D.C.--and I received a community grant from the AIC to start some work with young people writing and sharing their family history and culture, so this pen pal exchange is a welcome compliment.
- I love reading and am currently working on reading at least one book from every country--which I chronicle on my personal blog. I recently finished books by an Albanian author and one by an Angolan author. Next up is The Arrival, by Shaun Tan (an Australian author).
So, tell me something about you...
Please feel free to email me personally if you would like to engage writing to one another as well.
